Summary
Action St. Louis seeks a dedicated and visionary Organizing Manager to lead our organizing
efforts on housing and criminal justice reform campaigns. This senior leadership role will
manage a dynamic team of organizers, develop and implement strategic campaigns, and
ensure that our organizing work builds power and achieves transformative change for Black and
marginalized communities in St. Louis.
The Director of Organizing will report directly to the Executive Director and work collaboratively
with other departments to advance Action St. Louis’s mission and strategic goals.
Responsibilities
Campaign Leadership and Strategy
- Lead organizing strategies for housing justice and criminal justice reform campaigns,
ensuring alignment with Action St. Louis’s broader mission and theory of change. - Lead the development, execution, and evaluation of campaign goals, tactics, and
timelines in collaboration with the organizing team and community stakeholders. - Analyze the political and social landscape to identify opportunities for impactful
campaigns and proactive policy advocacy.
Team Management and Development
- Supervise, mentor, and support a team of organizers working on housing and criminal
justice campaigns. - Develop training programs to enhance staff skills in organizing, leadership development,
and campaign management. - Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture rooted in Action St. Louis’s values.
Community Engagement and Power Building - Build and maintain strong relationships with community members, grassroots leaders,
and coalition partners. - Ensure organizing efforts are rooted in the priorities and experiences of impacted
communities. - Develop and execute strategies to grow Action St. Louis’s membership base and deepen
civic engagement.
Operational and Administrative Oversight
- Monitor and evaluate campaign progress, providing regular updates to the Executive
Director and Board of Directors. - Collaborate with the development team to secure funding for organizing initiatives and
campaigns.
Requirements
Required Experience and Skills
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in grassroots organizing, campaign leadership, or
related fields, with a focus on housing or criminal justice reform preferred. - Proven track record of building and leading successful organizing campaigns that
achieve measurable outcomes. - Strong management and leadership skills, including experience supervising and
mentoring staff. - Deep understanding of power-building strategies, grassroots organizing, and
community-centered advocacy. - Exceptional communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse
audiences and build consensus. - Commitment to racial equity, social justice, and the values of Action St. Louis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with St. Louis’s political, social, and cultural landscape.
- Experience working in or with 501(c)(3) and/or 501(c)(4) organizations.
- Knowledge of housing policy, tenant rights, criminal justice reform, or related issue
areas.
