Custodian

Summary

This position is responsible for the general cleaning and routine maintenance of offices, parking garages, attendant booths, common areas, restrooms and outside areas as required. Full time, shifts are from Monday to Friday from 8am to 2pm.

Responsibilities

Sweep, mop, vacuum and clean assigned area as per the regular schedule and on an as needed basis. Manually, or by machine, strip floor finish and apply new floor finish. Operate a wide variety of cleaning equipment such as vacuums, power washers, carpet shampoo machines, and other equipment typically used in an industrial setting. Empty trash receptacles and place in appropriate locations. Wash down garage and outside areas with hoses. Perform limited garage maintenance functions, trash pick up, snow removal, and salt application. Climb ladders and/or use lift to clan fixtures. Stock custodial closets with supplies. Clean city owned vehicles. Move and set up furniture and equipment for office moves and/or special events. Perform all other duties requested by management.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent certification and one-year custodial experience. Ability to perform duties within extreme temperature ranges. Ability to perform essential job functions for duration of shift (up to 8 hours). Ability to repeatedly push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, and climb ladders. Ability to operate cleaning equipment. Ability to read work instruction, warning signs and labels. Knowledge of and expertise to perform general cleaning procedures.
• Stand or walk constantly (for up to an entire shift) on various surfaces (tile, concrete, carpet). Occasionally bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various duties; constant use of both hands and arms.  Must have sufficient strength to lift and move objects weighing 25 pounds. Work in various environments including adverse outdoor conditions such as cold, rain or heat. Work involves moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke and loud noises.
