Summary

Organization Overview

The Missouri Organizing and Voter Engagement Collaborative (MOVE) and Missouri Organizing and Voter Engagement Action (MOVE Action) are C3 and C4 tables operating jointly as a hub for progressive, grassroots organizations to shift power and reclaim democracy in Missouri. By coordinating and catalyzing strategic voter engagement efforts across the state, MOVE and MOVE Action are building a 1.6 million-voter-strong multiracial governing majority in Missouri that can win progressive policies and elect progressive candidates.

 

Position Summary

The Co-Executive Director for Operations and Development leads MOVE’s financial sustainability, operational excellence, and organizational infrastructure functions. This position holds equal authority with the Co-Executive Director for Programs, Strategy, and Organizing, with both reporting to the Board of Directors. This role ensures MOVE has the resources, systems, and operational capacity to achieve its goal of building a 1.6-million-voter governing majority.

 

Position Title: Co-Executive Director for Operations and Development

Location: Missouri, with offices in Kansas City and St. Louis

Status: Full-time, Exempt

Salary: $120,000

Reports to: Board of Directors (shared leadership with peer Co-Executive Director)

Responsibilities

Finance and Operations Management

  • Oversee general operations of three aligned organizations: c3, c4, and state PAC
  • Manage the Operations Director and provide strategic direction for organizational systems
  • Ensure compliance across multiple entity types and regulatory requirements
  • Lead financial audit oversight and business operations management
  • Develop and implement operational systems that support organizational growth and efficiency
  • Manage organizational budget development and financial planning processes

 

Development and Fundraising

  • Set ambitious multi-year budgets and fundraising strategy in collaboration with the Program Director
  • Inspire multi-million dollar investments from national progressive funders 
  • Manage major donor relationships and serve as organizational spokesperson to funders
  • Manage Development Director
  • Ensure sustainable funding streams for both election and non-election year programming
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy across individual, foundation, and institutional donors

 

Board Relations and Governance

  • Serve as primary liaison between staff leadership and Board of Directors
  • Ensure strategic alignment with multicycle goals in an ever-evolving political ecosystem
  • Coordinate Board meeting preparation, strategic planning processes, and governance compliance
  • Support Board development and engagement in organizational strategic direction
  • ​​Serve as primary organizational spokesperson for financial, operational, and board-related matters

 

Shared Organizational Leadership

  • Collaborate on major organizational decisions through established Co-Executive Director decision-making protocols
  • Share ultimate accountability for organizational performance and crisis management

Requirements

Leadership and Financial Management Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years senior leadership experience with demonstrated success in financial management and operations
  • Proven track record in fundraising and development, with experience securing multi-million dollar investments
  • Experience managing complex budgets and financial systems across multiple entity types
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit compliance requirements, particularly 501c3/c4 operations

 

Organizational Development Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in organizational systems development and operational excellence
  • Experience working with Boards of Directors in strategic partnership
  • Track record of building sustainable organizational infrastructure that supports growth
  • Experience managing through others and developing high-performing teams

 

Core Competencies

  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to develop and manage complex organizational budgets
  • Exceptional relationship management skills for donor engagement and board relations
  • Systems thinking with the ability to design and implement operational processes
  • Clear communication skills for financial reporting, donor relations, and board engagement

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the Missouri political and funding landscape
  • Background in progressive political organizations or social justice movements
  • Experience in shared leadership 
  • Understanding of campaign finance and political compliance requirements
