Regional Director, Senator McCaskill


Senator McCaskill seeks a Regional Director for her Kansas City office to oversee all northwest Missouri outreach under the direction of the Deputy Chief of Staff.  This individual will: act as the Senator's liaison to all government, community and constituent groups and civic leaders in their assigned geographic area; monitor developments, opinions and concerns in the region and update the Senator accordingly; attend civic meetings, community gatherings, and other events, representing the Senator in her absence; supervise and direct the work of other regional staff in support of the office’s outreach plan and casework; as well as other duties assigned. The ideal candidate will have excellent oral and written communications skills, a demonstrated capability to generate new ideas, be an enthusiastic leader as well as an enthusiastic team player and have the ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment.  Qualified applicants will have several years of experience in government and/or community outreach, solid ties to Kansas City and/or northwest Missouri, and a strong knowledge of local issues, geography and demographics. ●          supervises the work of five full-time employees in the Kansas City office;

●          exercises discretion and independent judgment in the performance of his/her duties; and

●          oversees all operations for the Kansas City region which includes 30 counties in northwest Missouri.



●          represents the Senator or assigns appropriate staff to do so as needed;

●          manages district office staff and responds to staff requests for assistance;

●          plans, assigns and evaluates work of employees in district office;

●          interviews, selects and trains employees of district office;

●          handles complaints and problems of employees in district office;

●          travels throughout the region at regular intervals to keep abreast of local concerns;

●          speaks to elected officials and representative of local groups when the Senator is unavailable;

●          meets with elected officials and representatives of local groups on behalf of the Senator; and

●          schedules meetings with federal and state government agencies as necessary. 



●          attends meetings and events required for performance of duties;

●          has ability to communicate effectively with Senator and office staff, Members and representatives from Senate and House offices, state government and community groups, outside organizations, constituents, and others;

●          has ability to represent the Senator in-person at public events and meetings, including speaking on behalf of the Senator/office, participating meaningfully in policy discussions, communicating policy positions, strategy and goals;

●          has ability to work long and unpredictable hours, weekends and holidays, as needed;

●          travels, driving to all areas of the region, as necessary for performance of duties;

●          has ability to prioritize and perform duties under pressure in a fast-paced environment; and

●          possesses strong communication skills—both written and verbal; possesses strong interpersonal skills; is detail-oriented, organized, an efficient multi-tasker, and comfortable working in a diverse, team-oriented environment

●          regularly uses typical office equipment, software programs, and methods of communication, including, for example, a computer, e-mail, telephone, smartphone, etc.
